Introduction to Quzhou Vocational and Technical College
Located in the historically and culturally renowned international garden city —Quzhou in western Zhejiang Province, Quzhou College of Technology (QZCT) was established in 2002 upon approval by the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province. It was merged by Quzhou Health School, Quzhou Normal School, Quzhou Teachers’ Further Education School and Quzhou Secondary Professional School. It is a publicly funded higher vocational college for full-time education, mainly focusing on the cultivation of skilled talents with high standards and qualifications on the front line of production, construction, management and services as well. In 2012, the college successfully passed the quality evaluation of higher vocational education work by Ministry of Education. It has been praised by the central and provincial governments for the maintaining of a safe, healthy, and civilized campus and for its excellent work in energy saving and students’ employment promotion.
Quzhou College of Technology covers an area of 26 hectares, with a total floor space of 170,000 square meters. The total value of fixed assets amounts to RMB 426.74 million. All the equipment for teaching and research is worth over RMB 87.11 million. The library has a total collection of 595,000 books and has 21 Chinese and foreign language databases. The college has a staff of 412 that meets the demands of modern vocational education. The size of the faculty is 274, of which 107 are with senior professional and technical titles, 266 have master’s degree or above, 3 are recruited into provincial “115” talent support programs, 1 provincial famous teaching teacher, 3 provincial excellent teachers, 3 provincial new star teachers, 11 provincial professional leaders, and more than 50 teachers are into municipal talent support programs. It has grown into a high-quality professional team with reasonable structure and full energy.
At present, there are over 6,500 full-time students in the college. The college enrolls students from five provinces (regions) of Zhejiang, Fujian, Anhui, Guizhou and Guangxi. Within QZCT, there are 6 faculties: The Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Art and Design, the Faculty of Economics and Management, the Faculty of Electronics and Information Engineering, the Faculty of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering, and the School of Further Education. The faculties cater to 22 majors, and form the coordinated development pattern with 5 professional groups including Machinery Manufacturing, Electronics & Information Engineering, Medicine and Health, Art & Design, and Financial Management. The majors of Nursing and Art Design are listed as the 13th Five-Year Plan advantageous specialty construction projects in Zhejiang. The majors of Midwifery, Computer Application Technology, Accounting and Automobile Inspection and Maintenance Technology are listed as the 13th Five-Year Plan characteristic specialty construction projects in Zhejiang. The two specialties of Photovoltaic Engineering Technology and Art & Design are professional service industry projects supported by the central finance. The college takes the initiative to establish practical training bases, among which the Practical Training Base for Machinery Manufacturing & Automation program is funded by the central government and the training base for the Nursing program is the Demonstrative Practical Training Base of Zhejiang Province. There is an Alibaba Customer Experience Training Base with a real corporate culture in the campus. At present, we have set up more than 170 off-campus training bases.
Centering its work on teaching, the college strives to constantly improve the quality of education. Two teaching reform projects have received the first prizes of Zhejiang Provincial Award for Achievements in Teaching. The college has hosted 1 project supported by National Social Science Foundation, 2 projects of the Humanities and Social Science Research Foundation supported by Ministry of Education, 1 key research project of the “13th Five-Year Plan” of the National Education and Science supported by the Ministry of Education and 26 provincial projects. The college also obtained 654 patents which have been authorized by the state and developed 5 courses into first-class courses of Zhejiang Province and completed 2 provincial high-quality open online courses. The college also has set up 12 new forms of textbooks construction projects in Zhejiang Province, compiled 13 textbooks that were recommend by Ministry of Education and provincial government.
Quzhou College of Technology adopts “Promoting Morality and Perseverance, Integrating Knowledge and Practice” as its motto and takes great efforts to cultivate the morality, professionalism, vocational competencies, professional spirit and overall qualities of the students. Effective measures are taken to encourage the students to participate in high level occupational skills competition and students’ innovation and entrepreneurship ability is constantly improving. Since 2015, the students have won 505 awards in competitions above national level and provincial level, among which 65 were first prizes. We have won 20 gold medals in such featured sports of the college as bocce, rock climbing and volleyball in national championships. In the past five years, more than 95 percent of the graduates have been employed upon graduation and the quality of employment has been increasing year by year.
Quzhou College of Technology adopts the concept of College-Enterprise Cooperation, Working and Learning Integration. Making full use of its advantages, the college has actively served local socio-economic development and made the contribution to local society. The college has set up some social training platforms such as Quzhou Farmers’ College and Quzhou Women’s College and have developed them into national demonstrative training bases for elderly care and home economics. In 2019, the college and the local government jointly established the Marginal Vocational Training Alliance of Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi and Anhui Provinces, and jointly committed to the training of high-quality skilled talents.
