Introduction to Hunan University of Science and Technology
Hunan University of science and technology started from Xiangbei Construction College on the eve of liberation. It was formed by the combination of Xiangtan Institute of technology and Xiangtan Normal University in 2003. It is a University jointly built by the people’s Government of Hunan Province and the State Administration of science, technology and industry for national defense, a University jointly built by the people’s Government of Hunan Province and the former State Administration of work safety, and a basic capacity building project supported by 100 universities in the central and western regions of China during the 13th five year plan Universities, Hunan Province “domestic first-class university construction university”.
The school covers an area of more than 3000 mu, with a building area of more than 1.1 million square meters. The total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 600 million yuan, and the total number of paper and electronic documents is 6.59 million. There are 19 teaching colleges and graduate schools, continuing education college, International Education College and Xiaoxiang College (Independent College). 93 undergraduate majors cover 11 disciplines. It has 3 first-class discipline postdoctoral research flow stations, 5 first-class disciplines authorized by doctor’s degree, 29 first-class disciplines authorized by master’s degree, 15 professional master’s degree authorization categories, and the recommended qualification for excellent undergraduate students to study for master’s degree without examination, “master’s plan” promotion qualification. It has 3 National Defense characteristic disciplines, 1 provincial advantage characteristic key discipline, 8 provincial key disciplines and 6 “double first-class” construction disciplines in Hunan Province. It has 8 National specialties, 17 provincial specialties and 1 national comprehensive reform pilot specialty.
The school has 2567 faculty members, including 1608 full-time teachers, 315 teachers with senior professional titles and 965 doctors’ degree teachers. There are more than 20 person times, including subject experts of national 863 program, leading talents of philosophy and social sciences of “ten thousand talents program”, talents of “four in one batch”, young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions, national candidates of “one million talents project in the new century”, national famous teachers of teaching and experts enjoying special government allowance of the State Council.
The university is the “excellent” University of the Ministry of education’s undergraduate teaching level evaluation, the “excellent engineer education and training plan” University of the Ministry of education, the first batch of innovative and entrepreneurial typical experience universities in China, and the typical experience universities of graduate employment in China. The first batch of undergraduate enrollment covers the whole country. At present, there are 27777 full-time undergraduates, 2907 postgraduates and 5728 students from Xiaoxiang University (Independent College). It has 1 national teaching team and 7 provincial teaching teams. It has 2 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, 1 National virtual simulation experimental teaching center, 1 off campus practice education base of “excellence plan” of the Ministry of education, 54 provincial practice teaching platforms, 74 provincial excellent courses, key courses and excellent courses. Since the 12th Five Year Plan, it has won 2 national teaching achievement awards and 38 provincial and ministerial teaching achievement awards.
The school has 30 national, provincial and ministerial self science and technology innovation platforms, and 10 provincial social science innovation platforms. Since the 12th Five Year Plan, it has undertaken 670 national planning projects, including the 863 program, the 973 program, the National Natural Science Foundation, and the National Social Science Foundation. It has won 128 national and provincial scientific research achievement awards, 1634 national authorized patents and software copyrights, and 101 new technologies. The Journal of Hunan University of science and Technology (NATURAL SCIENCE EDITION) and the Journal of Hunan University of science and Technology (SOCIAL SCIENCE EDITION) are all selected into the key catalogue of Chinese core journals. The Journal of Hunan University of science and Technology (SOCIAL SCIENCE EDITION) is selected into the CSSCI source journal, the core journal of Chinese Humanities and Social Sciences, and the top 100 social science journals of national universities. The “manatee” multi-purpose drilling rig with a depth of 60m under the deep sea led by the university marks that China’s deep sea drilling technology has reached the first-class level in the world.
The university has established good cooperative relations with nearly 40 universities in more than 10 countries and regions, such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Austria, Ireland, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Taiwan, etc. it has recruited overseas students from 24 countries and exchange students from Taiwan to study in the University, and regularly sent teachers and students to study abroad Further study or carry out Chinese teaching.
