POSITION DESCRIPTION: Primary Learning Support Specialist

REPORTS TO:
Head of Primary

EMPLOYMENT GOALS:
The Primary Learning Support Specialist provides specialized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs in an inclusive classroom environment. This role involves collaborating with general education teachers, parents, and other specialists to create an engaging and supportive learning experience that fosters academic and social-emotional growth.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instructional Support:
1. Develop personalized learning plans (PLPs) where necessary
2. Provide targeted instruction and intervention in core subject areas, utilizing a variety of teaching strategies and resources.
3. Adapt and modify curriculum materials to meet the diverse needs of learners.
4. Demonstrate ways of leveraging individual student’s strengths, interests, talents, and backgrounds toward improved learned.
5. Demonstrate a strong repertoire of differentiation strategies and evidence-based interventions that are workable in classrooms to address specific individual learning needs.

Collaboration:
1. Work closely with classroom teachers to identify students in need of additional support and develop strategies for their success.
2. Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to discuss student progress and offer resources for home support.
3. Collaborate with other specialists to coordinate services for students.
4. Is a resource for teachers in differentiation of instruction and assessment, including the delivery of specialized interventions.
5. Meet regularly with the Head of Primary to give status updates.
6. Attend all CST meetings.

Assessment and Monitoring:
1. Conduct assessments to determine students’ learning needs and monitor progress.
2. Analyze data to inform instruction and adjust teaching methods accordingly.
3. Maintain accurate records of student performance and progress.

Behavioral Support:
1. Implement positive behavior support strategies to promote a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
2. Develop and teach social skills and self-regulation strategies to students.

Professional Development:
1. Stay current with best practices in special education and inclusive teaching strategies through ongoing professional development.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Undergraduate Degree (Master’s degree preferred) in Education, Special Education or a related field.
2. Valid teaching certification in Special Education or Learning Support
3. Experience working with primary-aged students with diverse learning needs.
4. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
5. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
6. Ability and willingness to embrace and model the school’s core values.

Performance will be evaluated by the Head of Primary
