The Position
Canadian International School in Guangzhou seeks a new Early Years Education and Primary School Principal with the experience, skills, knowledge, and enthusiasm to lead the school. The Principal is expected to deepen the shared vision. He or she must be forward-focused, committed to collaboration, resourceful, and resilient when challenges occur. The ability to direct the school’s vision and develop a strong team is essential. He or she must be passionate about student learning and understand the unique needs of teaching, learning, and living abroad.
Education
Master’s degree in Education, Leadership, or related field,
Certification in Alberta Education or strong familiarity with Alberta standards,
IB PYPS Certification preferred.
Experience
Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in Early Childhood and/or Elementary Education.
Demonstrated experience in managing accreditation processes, particularly Alberta Education Accreditation.
Proven track record of improving teaching and learning outcomes through effective leadership.
Leadership Skills and Technical Skills
Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Collaborative leadership style, with a focus on professional development and continuous learning.
Ability to build strong relationships with educational authorities, staff, students, and parents.
Strong educational leadership capacity – curriculum implementation, building teacher capacity, implementing student services, and attaining high academic achievement.
Commitment to building a learning community with all stakeholders and developing a strong team within the school.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Proficiency in using online platforms for marketing, communication, and parent engagement (e.g., school websites, social media, WeChat, WeCom).
Familiarity with Alberta’s Teacher Observation and Assessment tools.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Educational Leadership
Develop and implement an ongoing student assessment strategy, providing actionable feedback to both teachers and parents.
Supervise teachers’ Professional Growth Plans, offering coaching to enhance teaching effectiveness.
Establish a Professional Learning Culture through collaborative observations, professional dialogue, and sharing of best practices.
Lead the implementation and compliance of the IB PYP curriculum in partnership with the PYP Coordinator.
Operational Excellence
Oversee the efficient day-to-day operations of the school, including creating and managing school calendars, schedules, and reporting
periods.
Monitor and improve operational elements.
Ensure the successful execution of school-wide events.
Lead and manage school marketing strategies, working with the marketing team to organize Open Days, student performances, and
community events.
Building Connections with Alberta Education Bureau
Act as the primary liaison with Alberta Education Bureau to maintain and enhance accreditation status.
Stay current with Alberta educational policies and ensure the school complies with all relevant regulations.
Develop strong partnerships with educational authorities in Alberta.
Teacher and Staff Development
Facilitate professional development sessions, focusing on priority areas identified by the Professional Learning Community (PLC).
Observe and document at least two teacher evaluations annually.
Assign and support staff for key programs such as Summer School and after-school activities.
Parent and Community Engagement
Organize and lead Parent Advisory meetings, ensuring transparent communication with parents.
Promote a positive community, fostering open communication
Expand the school’s digital presence through updates on the website and social media, highlighting news and events.
Student Enrollment and Growth
Develop marketing initiatives to increase student enrollment through school tours, open days, and presentations to potential families.
Maintain and grow relationships with feeder kindergartens and learning centers, promoting the school’s educational program
