Role Description and Working Relationships
The Assistant Head of the Middle School (AHMS) is a member of the Middle
School Leadership Team, and the Secondary School Leadership Team (SSLT), who
reports directly to the Head of the Middle School (HMS). The AHMS is the deputy
for the HMS and stands in for the HMS when she or he is away.The AHMS must
understand fully and support enthusiastically and articulately the stated mission
and purpose of the Academy, both in speaking and writing. All senior
administrators are expected to model behavior and attitudes that build
community, courtesy, and compassion in our boarding and day student society.
Positive enjoyment of the job and a sense of humor will be highly valued. The
AHMS will normally be expected to teach approximately one quarter of a full-time
teaching expectation.
As a key member of the Middle School Leadership Team, the AHMS works closely
with the Head of the Middle School in providing the pedagogical leadership and
training that envisions and inspires the learning program in the Middle School
and promotes the committed and creative practice of its teaching staff. The AHMS
supports students by working with the Middle School Dean of Students to
promote good behavior choices and the expression of our school’s values. The
AHMS supports parents by taking the lead on the parent education program at
the Middle School level.
