Anhui University of Chinese Medicine (安徽中医药大学) was founded in 1959. Its predecessor was the Anhui Traditional Chinese Medicine Training Course, founded in 1952. In 1959, the Anhui Provincial Government officially approved the establishment of Anhui College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 1970, Anhui College of Traditional Chinese Medicine was merged into Anhui Medical College. In 1975, the Ministry of Education approved the restoration of Anhui College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 2000, Anhui Medical School was incorporated into Anhui College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 2011, the provincial government approved the establishment of the Anhui Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine on the basis of Anhui College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 2013, the Ministry of Education agreed that Anhui College of Traditional Chinese Medicine was renamed Anhui University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Anhui University of Chinese Medicine is a national traditional Chinese medicine clinical research base, a national modernized medicine industry (Anhui) base, a national traditional Chinese medicine international cooperation base, and a national pharmaceutical clinical research base. It now covers a total area of 1269.68 acres and has four campuses: Shaoquanhu, Meishan Road, Shihe Road, and Lu’an Road. The library has a collection of 2.0155 million books, and the book collection of ancient books by the Ministry of Ancient Books contains 33,000 volumes. It is the “National Ancient Book Protection Unit”.
