Chongqing Police College is a full-time undergraduate college hosted by the Chongqing Municipal Government, under the management of the Chongqing Public Security Bureau and under the guidance of the Chongqing Education Commission. The predecessor of Chongqing Police Academy was the Public Security School of the Public Security Bureau of Chongqing Municipal People’s Government, which was established in 1950. In 2001, the Public Security School and the Chongqing Municipal Police School merged to form the Chongqing Police Vocational College. In 2005, Chongqing Police Officer Vocational College and Southwest University of Political Science and Law jointly undergraduate in law (Public Security Legal System). In 2012, the Chongqing Police Academy was established on the basis of the Chongqing Police Officer Vocational College with the approval of the Ministry of Education. In 2015, the school was awarded a bachelor’s degree granting unit.

Chongqing Police College is located in Shapingba District, Chongqing City, covering an area of 420,100 square meters (630.20 acres) and a building area of 115,300 square meters. The total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 32.4981 million yuan. The library has 653,400 hardcover books, 345,700 e-books, 468,800 e-journals, 710 Chinese and foreign language journals, and 25 resource databases. There are 26 experimental training places and 14 internship bases.

Chongqing Police College has eight undergraduate majors in investigation, law and order, police command and tactics, criminal science and technology, traffic management engineering, network security and law enforcement, economic crime investigation and anti-drug science, covering two disciplines: law and engineering, Public security science and public security technology are two first-level disciplines. The major of police command and tactics is the key professional training point of national public security higher education and the “first-class specialty” of Chongqing.
