4th/5th Grade Teacher Job Description
Overview:
The GT-Affiliated International School 4th/5th grade Teacher is adept at working with a diverse group of students of varying ages, and therefore able to differentiate curriculum, individualize instruction, and ensure a depth of conceptual and skills-based understanding. Teachers are dynamic, model a passion for and expertise in holistic education, and can collaborate effectively to develop and implement curriculum, track student progress, and group students for differentiation. Teachers instruct in standards-aligned curricula that focus on conceptual understanding, skills acquisition, and character growth.
Teaching practice:
Provide integrated learning opportunities that support the development of character, competencies, and conceptual knowledge
Incorporate active learning where students are engaged directly in analyzing problems, designing solutions, and testing ideas
Implement evidence-based best practices
Use positive approaches to student behavior management, effectively approaching student misbehaviors as learning opportunities
Teach multi-age groupings using a standards-based curriculum
Support diversity through curriculum materials selection, equitable treatment of students and families, and actively supporting and teaching tolerance and inclusion.
Establish and maintain routines and use positive and collaborative approaches to student behavior management, effectively approaching student misbehaviors as learning opportunities and following the AIS discipline policy
Schoolwide practice:
Ensure approach is inclusive, reflects and supports multiple forms of diversity
Support schoolwide collaboration through formal and informal engagement with others, sharing ideas and strategies, and participating in school development efforts
Participate in curriculum development and adoption teams, using the Common Ground Collaborative framework, when appropriate
Plan and teach After School Activities, and lead or be involved in school events
Conduct assigned supervision duties and assist with school functions
Professional practice:
Take ownership for own professional development: set goals, act and grow as an educator with the goal of improved student outcomes
Engage in professional reflection based on data, to think about, receive input on, and make changes to own practice
Proactively involve parents in their child’s education, including weekly communications focusing both on the class curriculum and individual progress in conceptual understanding, skills acquisition, and character development
Hold conferences and meetings to support families, participate in Student Support meetings

Other:
Monitor and assist students on playgrounds, lunches, and other assigned duty times
Assist in covering classes when others are on leave
Participate in special events, including evening events such as, Curriculum Night, Parent Conferences, performances, etc.
Arrange field trips, buses, and special events that enhance the curricular program
Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Education or related field
Minimum of four years full-time teaching
