Position Title: Advanced Placement (AP) Art and Design Teacher
Position Description
GUIS-NCPA seeks a knowledgeable, passionate and collaborative educator to join its high school team. The selected individual will teach five sections of High School Visual Art: AP Art and Design, and/or HS Art over a two-day block schedule arrangement. GUIS-NCPA has adopted the National Core Arts Standards and the School employs a standards-based assessment and reporting scheme. The School employs a standards-based assessment and reporting scheme. Content Knowledge, Planning, Delivery, Assessment, Learning Environment, Professionalism
1. The teacher demonstrates an understanding of the curriculum, subject content, and the developmental needs of students by providing relevant learning experiences.
2. The teacher plans using the school’s curriculum, data, and engaging and appropriate strategies and resources to meet the needs of all students.
a. Using the norms of collaboration to co-plan with colleagues who are teaching the same subject, and/or with EAL specialists.
b. Use individual planning time to create scaffolds and supports to make content accessible and provide challenge to students at a range of English proficiency levels
3. The teacher uses a variety of research-based instructional strategies relevant to the content area to engage students in active learning, to promote key skills, and to meet individual learning needs.
a. Deliver lessons in the assigned subject area(s) ensuring language is integrated and developed alongside content skills and knowledge
4. The teacher systematically gathers, analyzes, and uses relevant data to measure student progress, guide instructional content and delivery methods, and provide timely feedback to students, parents, and stakeholders.
5. The teacher uses resources, routines, and procedures to provide a respectful, positive, safe, student-centered environment that is conducive to learning.
6. The teacher maintains a commitment to professional ethics, international-mindedness, and the school’s mission; collaborates and communicates appropriately; and takes responsibility for personal professional growth that results in the enhancement of student learning.
7. The work of the teacher results in acceptable, measurable, and appropriate student progress.
Other Divisional Responsibilities:
*Facilitate Advisory session throughout the week
*Offer 30 hours of co-curricular activities during the three trimesters
*Provide Office Hours support before and after school
*Provide intervention support to students identified by Student Response System
*Participate in Intake or Open Day events
*Other responsibilities as assigned by the high school principal
Qualifications:
*holds a bachelor’s or master’s degree in art education
*holds relevant teaching experience in a high school or similar setting
*holds or be eligible for state or provincial teacher certification/licensure
Please note that due to visa restrictions, GUIS cannot employ teachers who are 60 years or older on the first day of the initial contract with the school.
