Director of Learning Profile
The Director of Learning will play a critical role in ensuring high-quality educational outcomes through effective curriculum implementation, monitoring of teaching
practices, and coordination of professional development. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to student learning, a comprehensive understanding of international education, and experience teaching or leading within an Albertacurriculum school. The successful outcome of this role will be improved student learning and an improved student experience across the school.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Development and Monitoring
Oversee the development and implementation of the written, taught, and assessed curriculum from the ECE Programme through Grade 12
Ensure alignment of the ECE curriculum with the Alberta Curriculum for Kindergarten to Grade 12
Regularly review and update curricular materials and resources to reflect best practices and current educational research
Collaborate with faculty to develop interdisciplinary and innovative curriculum initiatives that foster critical thinking and creativity
Teaching and Assessment Practices
Monitor instructional strategies and assessment practices across all grade levels to ensure adherence to best practices in education and Alberta curriculum standards
Provide guidance and support to faculty in developing effective teaching methodologies tailored to diverse learning needs
Conduct classroom observations and provide constructive feedback to improve instructional quality
Promote the use of data-driven decision-making to assess student learning outcomes and refine curriculum delivery
Professional Development Coordination
Collaborate with faculty to assess professional learning needs and coordinate the school’s professional development initiatives
Manage the professional development budget to facilitate ongoing teacher growth and training
Organize workshops, conferences, and training sessions that align with the school’s strategic goals
Foster a culture of continuous learning among faculty through mentoring and peer observation programs
Parent and Community Engagement
Act as a liaison between the school and parents to ensure they are informed about the educational programmes offered, including curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular activities
Develop and implement parent information sessions and workshops to enhance understanding of the curriculum and educational philosophy
Foster relationships with community stakeholders to create partnerships that enrich students’ learning experiences
Encourage parental involvement in school events and initiatives that support student achievement
Leadership and Collaboration
Work collaboratively with the Head of School and other administrative leaders to set and implement strategy and educational goals for the institution
Embrace educational technology and innovation as a core aspect of the school develop strategy
Participate in strategic planning and policy development related to curriculum and educational practices
Lead a collaborative learning community among educators to share best practices and enhance instructional quality
Advocate for resources and support necessary to achieve curricular and instructional goals across all divisions
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School
Qualifications
Master’s degree in education or a related field
Minimum of 10 years of teaching experience across multiple grade levels
Proven leadership experience in curriculum development and instructional practices
Experience with the Alberta curriculum and the IB Primary Years Programme is highly desirable
Valid Alberta teaching certification or the ability to obtain certification before the commencement of the role in August 2025
