Position Title: Early Childhood Education (ECE) & Elementary Assistant Principal
Location: Canadian International School of Guangzhou
Reports To: ECE & Elementary Principal
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary
The ECE & Elementary Assistant Principal will play a vital role in supporting the educational mission of Canadian International School of Guangzhou. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and developing student schedules, managing discipline issues among ECE and Elementary students, and providing general supervision of the ECE & Elementary teaching staff. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the Alberta curriculum and the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP).

Key Responsibilities
1. Instructional Leadership
Support the ongoing development of teacher practice in regard to the delivery of the Alberta curriculum and the IB PYP curriculum framework
Facilitate the ongoing improvement of the division in accordance with the IB Standards and Practices and in collaboration with the PYP Coordinator and Principal
Provide leadership and support to ECE & Elementary teaching staff, promoting and developing professional development and building strong collaboration
Conduct regular classroom observations and provide constructive feedback to enhance teaching practices
Foster a culture of high expectations and accountability among staff and students
Model best practices as required to mentor teachers

2. Coordination and Development of Schedules
Develop and manage student and staff schedules to ensure optimal learning environments
Collaborate with teachers to align course offerings and resources to meet student needs
Ensure compliance with provincial regulations and school policies in scheduling processes
Have an understanding of and experience with the IB Primary Years Programme

3. Understanding of the Alberta Student Management System (PASI) and Toddle
Utilize the PASI system to track student progress, attendance, and performance.
Train and support staff in effectively using PASI for student management.
Analyze data from PASI to inform instructional practices and interventions
Understand the Toddle format for our IB students and staff
Train and support staff in effectively using Toddle for student report cards and assessments

4. Behaviour Management
Address discipline issues among ECE & Elementary students in a fair and consistent manner
Develop and implement programs that promote positive behavior and conflict resolution
Work closely with parents, teachers, and counselors to support students’ behavioral and academic needs

5. School Leadership and Community Engagement
Serves as a member of the school’s leadership team, contributing to the development and implementation of the school’s strategic plan, policies, and initiatives
Fosters a positive and collaborative working environment among faculty and staff, promoting the school’s mission, vision, and values
Communicates regularly with parents and the broader school community, addressing concerns and maintaining positive relationships
Collaborates with other international schools and educational organizations to share best practices and explore opportunities for partnership and growth
Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal

Qualifications
Master’s degree in education or working towards a master’s degree
Alberta Teacher Certification (attained by the time the position commences)
Experience in ECE or Elementary education, with a strong understanding of Alberta’s curriculum and assessment practices
Experience as an IB PYP teacher or administrator (preferred)
Familiarity with the PASI system (preferred)
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
