This new role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and proactive individual to develop FCG as a centre of excellence for school sport in the region. We have the facilities, the staff and the commitment from senior stakeholders to support making this vision a reality.
Our Philosophy
Our guiding principle at FCG is Sport for All which we balance with our inherited ethos of sporting excellence from Fettes College in the UK. We aim to instil in our students a lifelong love of sport and physical activity, and whether an enthusiastic amateur or future Olympian, we support each of our students to achieve their sporting goals.
Sport features in many areas of school life at FCG including:
– Core PE for delivery of curriculum components
– Enhanced coaching for selected sports including basketball, tennis and swimming
– Timetabled weekly Games afternoons for whole-school sporting events and inter-house competition
– Lunchtime and after-school activity programme including options such as golf, climbing, fitness, baseball and horse riding.
The Team
The Head of PE will lead an enthusiastic team of 3 qualified PE teachers supported by external specialists.
Sports Facilities
The school has outstanding facilities including:
– 25m pool and a 50m pool
– Fitness and weight training suite
– Dance studio
– Climbing wall
– Indoor golf range with analysis technology
Responsibilities
· To line manage teachers of PE and co-ordinate external specialists
· To oversee delivery of academic and co-curricular sport throughout the school
· To develop an exciting programme of sporting activities to make best use of the impressive campus facilities
· To develop opportunities for competitive sport within and beyond the school
Communications
· To communicate effectively with the parents of students as appropriate, following agreed policies for communications.
· To attend all meetings and cascade information to members of the faculty.
Marketing and Liaison:
· To take part in marketing and liaison activities such as Open days, and liaison events with partner schools.
· To contribute to the development of effective links with external agencies.
Management of Resources:
· To manage the process of the ordering/booking and allocation of equipment and materials within the faculty.
· To aid line managers in identifying resource needs and to contribute to the efficient/effective use of physical resources.
Pastoral System: :
· To be a homeroom tutor to an assigned group of students
· To promote the general progress and wellbeing of individual students and of the homeroom tutor group.
· To participate in assemblies.
· To contribute to the preparation of student reports and progress files.
· To review student reports, and ensure consistent and accurate assessment.
· To alert the proper staff to problems experienced by students and to make recommendations as to how these may be resolved.
Teaching:
· To teach students according to their educational needs, goals and the ethos of the school.
· To assess, record and report on the attendance, progress, development, and attainment of students and to keep such records as are needed.
· To provide, or contribute to, oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to individual students and groups of students.
· To ensure a high-quality learning experience for students which meets internal and external quality standards.
· To adhere to the school’s policy of Professional Conduct
External engagement
• To be a visible presence in the school community and beyond.
• To take an active role in promoting the school at marketing events and raising the school’s profile in the local area by developing sporting events and competitions involving people beyond the FCG community
