Job Description
These are very exciting times for The King’s School Canterbury in China. Throughout its extremely long history, dating back to the year 597, the King’s School has undergone many changes and maintained its position at the forefront of education. Following the success of our Pre-Prep School (Kindergarten) at King’s School Shenzhen International, which opened in 2019, we expanded with the opening of our magnificent second campus in 2022. This new campus marks the next stage of our project, with a Prep and Senior School that prepares young people for life in this quickly changing world and supports their journey to university.
As an international school, we remain fully aware of our responsibilities to China, ensuring that our local students maintain a strong Chinese identity while gaining a global outlook.
The connection between Shenzhen and Canterbury—and our soon-to-be-built school in Cambodia—is a genuine one, with regular visits and exchanges planned between the schools. Additionally, we are privileged to share resources and expertise, all underpinned by a common philosophy that emphasizes academic excellence, a wealth of co-curricular opportunities, and pastoral care of the highest quality.
Our new campus in Qianhai, Shenzhen, accommodates over 1,000 Primary and Secondary pupils in state-of-the-art, purpose-built facilities. These include a library, health & well-being centre, robotics lab, various performance halls, theatre, recording studio, sports hall, swimming pool, martial arts room, and outdoor sports and play facilities, as well as specialist classrooms and laboratories. We also have a sizeable five-day-a-week boarding community.
King’s offers a truly all-round education with a wide-ranging curriculum, complemented by an active co-curriculum and a long, fulfilling school day. We borrow from the best of China and the UK, but we give everything our own special King’s twist, with a strong emphasis on breadth, creativity, and communication. We are a performing school, and much is expected of our students, who are challenged without being stressed in both academic and non-academic pursuits.
In such an environment, King’s prioritizes student pastoral care and well-being. The campus buildings and landscaping are designed with this in mind, and our house and tutor system adds an extra layer of care for all students.
We are now seeking a range of home-room teachers and subject specialists to join our enthusiastic and dedicated team of teachers for both campuses. We expect our teachers to believe in and put into practice our philosophy of an all-round education, focused on creative, active, and interactive learning. They should also be outstanding in the way they support children at every stage of their educational journey. We value teachers who are fully engaged with this approach and are prepared to contribute to this very special community. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to join the school at this early stage in its development and help lay the foundations of what we expect to be a great institution.
Shenzhen, China’s fastest-growing city, offers a high-quality lifestyle and is an increasingly popular place to live. The city offers everything from green mountains to beaches, from traditional shopping and sightseeing areas to spectacular shopping malls. The transport network is efficient, providing easy access to the rest of China and Asia. Our teachers enjoy a competitive, generous salary and numerous benefits, such as an accommodation allowance, medical insurance, and 100% tuition fee remission for staff children.
Applications
Applicants should be fully sympathetic with the King’s ethos – please look carefully at the school’s website. They should be highly professional but flexible in their approach, willing to take on a variety of tasks and fit into wider community life. This is a rolling process, and we shall consider all applicants as their applications are submitted.
