Concert Band Teacher
The concert band teacher plays an important role in delivering instruction to students in music theory, rhythm, beat, harmony, and musical instruments. The primary task of the concert band teacher is to get the various instruments within a grade level to play songs together proficiently. The teacher is expected to organize and prepare students for three concerts a year—one per term and each grade should play 2-3 songs per concert.
Grades: Pre-K to Grade 9
Instruments: Piano, Percussion, Flute, Violin, Xylophone, Recorder, etc.
Assignment: Full time. Approximately 2/3 concert band, 1/3 learning support as needed
Essential Skills:
Able to read sheet music
Able to adapt sheet music to student ability level
Strong knowledge of music theory
Good student management skills
Good communication and organizational skills
Basic Requirements:
An undergraduate degree
Proficient in English
Preferred:
Degree in music
Prior experience organizing concerts
Prior experience in a band
Prior teaching experience at elementary level
